  • Ezine Publishing: Internet Article Marketing Must Go Beyond Writing to Measuring the Results

    The recent update in mid-2006 by EzineArticles to help authors monitor their article marketing and article writing statistics has brought incredible opportunities to those who actively use these tools. Unfortunately, I believe many are not taking advantage of these statistics and therefore are failing to capitalize on the results of increasing web traffic. This failure further reinforces a working harder not smarter attitude. Each morning using the View My Articles resource page, I track the total daily article reads from one day to the next. Also, I include the number of times Ezine Publisher has been used, along with emails and votes. This helps me to see any trends in overall article viewing traffic. During a teleconference for Internet Marketing Articles sponsored by Ezine’s Chris Knight with Jeff Herring who had written over 700 articles at that time, Jeff shared his total reads for all articles submitted. I then took that information and calculated his average reads per article which were around 175. This figure of 175 became my minimum benchmark for the average reads for my articles. Currently, I am averaging 274 reads per article or 54,382 reads for 198 articles.

    The best reaction you are looking for is possibly a smile as they halt everything else to hurriedly open your email. But at the very least they will sit back relax and read your offering. If this is the kind of reaction you get out then you have a very valuable marketing and communicating tool in your hands.

    Now if you were to publish a traditional type of newsletter a lot of trees would be used in the process. With an eZine it is an electronic document sent via email so it is pretty ethical. Use it to spread your experience and knowledge about your subject material.

    Drive Traffic to Past Articles Another result that I have monitored is using new articles to increase traffic to old articles. By writing about one topic such as Strategic Planning and referring the reader through an anchor text link does increase the reads to that past article. Again, this increases average reads per article.

    If you are already sending out marketing emails, chances are that you are wondering why you have such a high rate of people unsubscribing. The perfect solution is introducing a useful newsletter that tells your target audience more about you and what you stand for through useful information and valuable stuff that they will appreciate having.

    Maintain and Adjust Author Rankings Using the Author Rankings by Category page, I can measure the results of my efforts respective to overall article submission. Of the 42 topic areas where I have submitted articles, I am in the top 20 of all writers in 10 of those areas. Additionally, over 50% of the topic areas, I am in the top 25% of all writers. By monitoring this page, I can determine what topic I may wish to address especially to maintain my ranking of being in the top 20 authors of those topics. NOTE: These topics have already been delineated in my marketing plan.

    To produce the kind of powerful ezine that we have been talking about throughout this article it is important that you do lots of research focusing on what your readers and prospects really want and are looking for, and then supply it.

  • The Right Way to Generate High Quality Traffic to Your Site

    Even if you are brand new to Internet Marketing you should understand how valuable high quality traffic can be. Before we dive into the different methods of generating traffic for your website you need to understand that not all traffic is of equal value; one method is great for generating super targeted and relevant traffic but doesn’t help you build your brand even a little bit while another method might be the best brand building method you’ve tried but not bring in much actually relevant traffic to your site. That being said, let’s take a look at some of the things you can do to build your traffic volume that also helps you strengthen the brand you’ve been working so hard to create.

    Once upon a time, article directories were fantastic places to generate traffic for your site because publishing and getting ranked in the search engines for your articles wasn’t that huge a deal. But fast forward now, things are not the same. Google’s Panda Update has hit major directories like EzineArticles.com really hard, so gone are the days when you could submit anything, get ranked and drive traffic. If you dig a little deeper, however, you will see that this is the best thing ever because it is clearing out all of the rehashed content and crap and making room for much higher quality content.

    An incredibly underutilized method of traffic generation is increasing the exposure of your website’s URL by including it in all of your offline literature: your fliers, your business cards, on your letterheads, etc. Some webmasters even paint the URL of their websites on their cars. The point here is that getting more exposure to your website or blog can be done through offline means to. Try to be creative and see if there are ways that you can adjust your approach to get even more targeted traffic for your website. For example, if you sell an ebook on “health” it’s easy to tie up with the Health institutes in your local area and request that they send their students to your website; if they generate any sales for you, you can give them a commission.

    Finally, network with the other Internet marketers and webmasters who are well known in your niche. Get out there add socialize with the people who will help you get more exposure from their web properties. It’s easier to send traffic to your project when you know the best people and have the best contacts to help you with this sort of thing. Sometimes a single contact will introduce you to another and so on until you find someone who has a project idea that can be beneficial to both of you.

    Lastly, network with other Internet marketers, webmasters and bloggers who have a presence in your niche. Get out there add socialize with the people who will help you get more exposure from their web properties. The point is that when you know the right people and have a good stable of contacts, it’s easier to find new and good opportunities to send traffic to your project. Once in a while one contact will lead you to another and then another who will help you make contact with someone who has a great joint venture deal or a project that can be of mutual benefit. Nowadays traffic generation is talked about all over the place but especially in IM circles. You will see that even the most experienced Internet marketers want to talk about new or innovative methods for increasing visitor flow. One factor that doesn’t get talked about in relation to generating traffic is the creation of value. That’s right; when you create something with real value, you’ll be able to get long term traffic that isn’t just top value, it also converts. No matter that niche you like best or that you work within, when you focus on offering extreme value, the word of your endeavors will spread all by itself because bloggers will mention you, websites will link to you, people will talk about what you offer; value is the name of the game.
